AAAS 2015 Poster Competition

Using Fluidigm BioMark HD System to Analyze Gene Expression in CD8+ T Cells from HIV-Infected Patients

One of the winners of the 2015 AAAS Student Poster Competition, Sidney Lane (left), student research assistant in Dr. Pahwa’s lab, is a co-winner in the Developmental Biology, Physiology and Immunology category. As a summer student volunteer in 2014, Sidney is a UM sophomore majoring in Microbiology & Immunology and is being mentored by Lesley de Armas, Post-Doc Research Associate, during that time.

Along with the other winners, Sidney will be recognized in the spring issue of Science and on the Annual Meeting website. Additionally, she will receive a cash prize, a certificate and a one-year AAAS membership, which includes a subscription of Science.

Sidney was able to be a part of this competition through Our Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (IMSD) program which is for under-graduate students planning to pursue a PhD or MD, PhD. IMSD’s purpose is to achieve greater participation of students from under-represented groups in the biomedical sciences, and is lead by Dr. Michael Gaines.

Congratulate Sidney when you see her on campus!
